How to Write an Effective Essay: The Introduction

While writing an essay for an English class may seem overwhelming, it does not have to be. This technique is quite helpful as all students have their own mental capabilities. With this in mind it cannot be stressed enough how important it is for you to learn word-processing skills and to make sure you have access to a computer.

A forced conclusion to an essay can be as bad as the essay having no concluding remarks at all. It is important to realise that this is a skill which has to be learnt and practised, and that therefore you should apply yourselves from the very beginning, as you will be writing essays for which you will be graded from the early weeks to the very end of your degree programme.

Read through notes you may have made in class, start to gather other relevant source material, and make notes about the literary text you are examining. One final point on quotations: Look over your notes and invention exercises and think about how you can organize this information in an outline.
